Barcodes in Docentric Toolkit 4.0

We have just released a new version of Docentric Toolkit. This is another major release that brings many improvements of existing functionality, but also introduces the long-awaited feature: bar codes.

Barcodes

Docentric Toolkit now finally “natively” supports barcodes. It was possible to include dynamic barcodes on a template before but only in the form of text using special barcode fonts. And this might have worked for 1D symbologies. The toolkit now supports not just 1D, but also 2D barcodes which are rendered as vector images. This means that you can rotate and resize them without loosing image quality.

Currently the following symbologies are supported:

  • Aztec
  • Code 128
  • Code 39
  • Codebar
  • Data Matrix
  • EAN-13
  • EAN-8
  • Interleaved 2 of 5
  • MSI
  • PDF-417
  • Pleassey
  • QR Code
  • UPC-A

We will add support for other barcode symbologies in the future releases of Docentric Toolkit.

There is new type of a tagging element that you can use to insert dynamic barcodes. The Barcode tagging element is a data-bindable placeholder element that you can bind to a textual data field.

Other improvements

There is a lot of other imporovements or bug fixes in the new release. The most important ones are:

  • TableCell.TextDirection property is now supported when rendering to PDF or XPS.
  • Added support for repeated table header rows. Table rows that are designated to as header rows are now properly repeated on each new page in case the table spans more than one page.
  • Added support for WMF/EMF images.
