New Release: 1.4.3

The SizeMode property has been added to the Image tagging element. It is used to control how the rendered image size is determined.

The default value is Use Placeholder Size. The original size of rendered images in this size mode gets ignored and the placeholder's size is used. Until now this was the only supported size mode.

The oposite mode is Use Image Size where the image size is used (regardles of the placeholder size) in respect to its DPI. This value mimics MS Word behavior when manual placing (copy/paste) an image onto a document.

And finally, in the Fit Placeholder Width and Fit Placeholder Height size modes an image uses placeholder's width or height while maintaining its aspect ratio.

Hi Jure,

I've asked our client, I'm waiting for the answer now. I'd say if you can do it in the next 1 to 2 weeks we can wait for you to add this feature.

Thanks again for your hard work and dedication, it's greatly appreciated

Hi Clement,

We discussed your feature request and we believe this option would be something that many would benefit from. We will definitely implement it but currently there are other items with higher priority on our agenda. Can you wait with it 1-2 weeks, or are you in a hurry?

Regards, Jure

Hi again Jure,

After a quick update everything goes swimmingly thanks again.

Yet, regarding these placeholder render modes, I'd like to add something to the wishlist just in case you can add it to your roadmap. Could you add another render mode which would act like a hit box ?

I mean we'd keep the source image aspect ratio so the end-result wouldn't appear distorted but we'd force the dimensions of the source image so it wouldn't be bigger than the placeholder and wouldn't mess with the overall template layout while still maximizing its size

I'll give you a few examples : given an 8'' x 5'' place holder :

  • a 8" x 5" image (source) would be rendered at 8" x 5" (about the right size source pictures)
  • a 8" x 4" image would be rendered at 8" x 4"
  • a 6" x 5" image would be rendered at 6" x 5"
  • a 4" x 2,5" image would be rendered at 8" x 5" (smaller source pictures)
  • a 6" x 3" image would be rendered at 8" x 4"
  • a 3" x 2,5" image would be rendered at 6" x 5"
  • a 16" x 10" image would be rendered at 8" x 5" (larger source pictures)
  • a 10" x 10" image would be rendered at 5" x 5"
  • a 16" x 8" image would be rendered at 8" x 4"

This would be a really cool feature for our project and would save us ton of time reworking the image to fit in a placeholder which dimensions we don't know beforehand.

Thanks a lot,

Keep up the great work

Hi Jure,

thank you, I'll ask a coworker who grasps those concepts better than I do to have a quick look. Thanks for your quick response.

Cheers,

Clément

Hi Clément,

I created a simple program with Visual Studio which merged the template with the XML file you sent (without modifying them) and got the generated document correctly rendered (See the attached generated document). Please check if the program that generates documents is indeed grabbing/using your template.

Cheers, Jure

Hi Jure,

thanks for the quick response. I just had a look in the example browser but the image is used with the default 'use placeholder size' option.

You'll find with this post my .docx template, the .xsd and .xml used and a sample generated using those.

Thanks a lot for your help and once again I really enjoy your produce, keep up the good work,

Clément

Hi Clément,

Thank you for posting your issue. The 'Size Mode' feature is pretty old now and as far as I know there haven't been any reported bugs. So, if I understand you correctly, your resulting/rendered document always contains rendered image of the size of the placeholder (Image tagging element) regradless of the Size Mode option? Have you checked the example in the "Example Browser" application (installed along with the product on your computer)? It shows how to use Size Mode feature. Anyway, can you please send me your template and tell me what would you like to achieve? This way I will be able to help you most.

Thanks, Jure Leskovec

Hi, I'm having trouble with this precise function, even when picking other render options I keep getting the same result as if I were using the 'Use Placeholder Size' option. Is there a troubleshooting procedure ? Are there any known bugs ? Thanks anyway for any input regarding my issue and thanks for a great solution which is growing on me

Clément

Quick edit : I'm using docentric only from an editing point of view (not implementing any code but designing models)
